Timothy's Ministry, We Are Family

Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

BACKGROUND
(By Marian Alvarado)

Timothy's Ministry first began in December 2002 as God's answer to my prayer after I cried out to God on my knees the day before my son Tim's birthday (Tim passed away the year before). I remember saying, "Help me, God, if only I could have had the simple joy of baking Tim a cake, what I would have given." Click on "Stories" in the top navigation bar to read how it all began.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

Timothy's Ministry welcomes volunteers, and there is no need to RSVP ahead of time if you would like to attend any of our Sunday luncheons. There are many different ways a person can help including: bringing a dish, donating clothing, staying for lunch and visiting with our guests, helping in the kitchen, helping in the clothing room, or in the kitchen, in the clothing room, or wherever you feel comfortable. Luncheons are every 2 weeks. Our next luncheon date is September 23rd. Please join us.

HOSTING A SUNDAY POTLUCK LUNCHEON

If you have a group of 8 or more friends (up to 50), we would be so grateful if you would consider hosting an upcoming luncheon. (See Available Dates) Hosting a luncheon simply means that your group will provide the core food and also do the set-up and clean-up; and our other volunteers can provide whatever else is needed. SUGGESTIONS FOR HOST GROUP VOLUNTEERS   Sunday Luncheon details   see our calendar

Set-up Services

11:15 a.m.

Place table clothes on tables, cut bagels, make coffee, and receive food donations coming into kitchen

Volunteers from our Timothy's Ministry Team will be in the downstairs kitchen to assist you before the luncheon begins. Everything should be ready to go including most of the food on the buffet table by 12:15 so that there are no disturbances during the Worship Service (12:15 - 12:45 p.m.). Any food items that need to be kept warm or cold can be simply placed in the refrigerator/oven but should be ready for transfer to the buffet table at 1 p.m. when the Service ends so we can eat right away.

Worship Service in Cafeteria

12:15 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.

Worship Service in Cafeteria - Same room as luncheon.

We welcome our volunteers to join us in our Worship Service if it works with your schedule. Food can be brought into kitchen during this time.

Clean-up Services

2:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Clothing Room is open to our guests, and clean-up begins

Remove plates, collect trash, remove table cloths, put away dishes, etc.

The clean-up is to prepare the room for the next school day. We can leave tables and chairs up, and just remove and clean table cloths and dispose of food. We do not have to mop the floors as there is a cleaning service that cleans up after we leave.

Beverage Donations

Drop off between
11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
in kitchen

Eight (8) two-liter containers of pop (4 regular and 4 diet), a case of water, fruit juice, a couple bag(s) of ice.

Bring the beverages to the cafeteria downstairs

We stock powdered lemonade and also coffee, but pop, water, and juice are truly appreciated if possible.

Food Donations Suggested Quantity/Menu

Drop off between 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. in kitchen

MAIN DISHES:
Provide 10-12 Main Dishes (One 9x11" Casserole = 1 Main Dish)

SIDE DISH or SALADS:
Provide 8-10

DESSERTS:
Provide 8-10

Suggestion: 200 pieces of chicken (fried) is a favorite - 8 pans. If a group brings 8 pans of chicken and perhaps 2 hams, that would be great for the main dish.

Menu Planning:

  • Fried chicken (not grilled/baked) - About 200 pieces works well (which is about 8 pans of chicken from Jewel). Jewel seems to have the best price. People really like to take this as "left overs" for a meal later, so none goes to waste!
  • Some other meats include Ham, pulled pork, Italian beef, tacos, sausage with peppers and onions, sloppy Joe's, etc. A variety is always nice but other volunteers will bring some items to add variety.
  • 4-5 side dishes - mac and cheese, rice casserole, potato dish, corn bread, baked beans, lasagna, casserole dishes, etc.
  • 4-5 veggie dishes - green beans, mixed veggies, broccoli, corn, etc.
  • Fresh fruit
  • Fresh veggie tray
  • 2-3 salads - Caesar salad is a favorite
  • Desserts: cookies, bars, brownies, pie, etc.
  • 1 cake for birthdays
  • 2 large bags of ice
  • 8 two liter bottles of assorted pop
Note: If your group is smaller, we will come around you if you are not able to provide all of the above items! God always provides and truly each luncheon buffet is a picture of 'loaves and fishes'!

Plastic ware optional

Drop off between 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. in kitchen

Provide 150 count of disposable plates, plastic cups, napkins and plastic ware

Timothy's Ministry stocks these items, but donations are always appreciated if your group would like to do so.
