Timothy's Ministry, We Are Family

Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

BACKGROUND
(By Marian Alvarado)

Timothy's Ministry first began in December 2002 as God's answer to my prayer after I cried out to God on my knees the day before my son Tim's birthday (Tim passed away the year before). I remember saying, "Help me, God, if only I could have had the simple joy of baking Tim a cake, what I would have given." Click on "Stories" in the top navigation bar to read how it all began.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

Timothy's Ministry welcomes volunteers, and there is no need to RSVP ahead of time. There are many different ways a person can help including: bringing a dish, donating clothing, staying for lunch and visiting with our guests, helping in the kitchen, helping in the clothing room, or in the kitchen, in the clothing room, or wherever you feel comfortable.

HOSTING A LUNCHEON

If you have a group of 8 or more friends, we would be so grateful if you would consider hosting an upcoming luncheon. Hosting a luncheon simply means that your group will provide the basics and also do the set-up and clean-up; and our other volunteers can provide whatever else is needed.

WE NEED HOST GROUPS FOR FUTURE LUNCHEONS! PLEASE CONTACT MARIAN IF YOUR GROUP WOULD BE INTERESTED: Marian@TimothysMinistry.org

VOLUNTEERS FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS

Luncheon Volunteers: We need volunteers at the luncheons at both Churches to help with set-up, clean-up, serving, visiting, and the Clothing Rooms. (Huge need for set-up and clean-up)

Case Manager: Helping out at Tim's House on Fridays or perhaps on your own time to connect our guests with housing, medical help, jobs, furniture, and more.

Administrative Assistant: We would be so grateful to have someone's help for 2 - 5 hours per week to help with follow-up communications including phone calls, e-mails, and letters. If you are interested and have a heart to help in this way, you could probably do this directly from your own home and communicate with Marian via e-mail. Furniture Coordinator: We could use someone interested in coordinating donations for many of our guests who move into housing.

Tim's House (Fridays, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., 3850 North Tripp, Chicago (three blocks from the I-90 and Irving Park exit) - Individuals or Groups Needed!: We need volunteers willing to visit with our guests one-on-one to encourage them and simply take the time to listen to one person so that we can better understand their needs. A volunteer can make a huge difference in someone's life by simply listening to them and giving one individual the opportunity to talk because each person has a story and we can often help with a solution once we can better understand the needs. We are also looking for people willing to provide a lunch for 15 - 20 people an a Friday. If you would like to provide lunch but you are unable to bring the food to our location, you can always contact us about a donation toward ordering pizza or other food that could be delivered. Thank you!

REPLICATION OF TIMOTHY'S MINSTRY

We thank God that a second church, The Heights Chapel, replicated Timothy's Ministry beginning on September 20, 2009; and they have had a luncheon every other week since that time. Our bus holds approximately 50 people, and the second Church usually brings approximately 18 - 20 people. It is our hope and prayer that other churches will also replicate this ministry. If your church is interested in beginning a ministry such as this, please feel free to contact us and/or visit us for a Sunday luncheon.

HOUSING/DAY CENTER

We continue to pray for more ways in which to help our many friends who struggle with homelessness including help with housing and perhaps a day center that would provide job assistance and encouragement. Please contact us if you would like to help in this area.
